"You are only as sick as your secrets" is a big one. Secrecy creates shame which perpetuates the problem and of course, regardless of your circumstances, there are always lies when you're in active addiction. SO many lies.

I know for me, I felt the need to hide my drinking and basically everything in my life even if I didn't have to. It's like, you feel like you're being bad (which you are) and you do stupid shit when you're drunk, and you feel like nobody is trustworthy and the world is out to get you!

So it's a shitty way to live.

And sometimes you even lie to yourself, and say your secrets are okay, that nobody understands. Maybe they don't, but you understand yourself, you know what you're doing, you know you don't WANT to drink, so you know you are sick. And even when people find out your secrets (they always inevitably do because hiding that you're drunk obviously doesn't work - smell, actions etc, and you're bound to spill your beans when drunk too), you still continue to hide things.

Just a life in disguise, but you aren't fooling anyone, including yourself.
